a pic a day (day 75)

the infamous victory house in jalan lady maxwell, fraser’s hill, pahang laid in ruins and left to rot with nature. the allegedly haunted bungalow was built in the 20’s (original 1930’s pic here) and evidently had been changing hands multiple times, all ended up being abandoned by its previous owners. the pic was taken in december 2007 while on a trespassing violation to view up close and personal of the said structure accompanied by my 2 brothers (for an obvious reason). unluckily luckily we were not greeted, spooked, possessed or even molested by the apparitional resident (or residents) or else our mother would be without her 3 sons (out of 4) by now. since then the bungalow was sold for rm 950,000, went through a make over, renovation completed and finally deserted again soon after until today.

during my schoolyears in the early 90’s, i had always been fascinated by the taiping war cemetery, near bukit larut, taiping everytime i passed the mowed greens with hundreds of white headstones lining up in orderly rows upon rows, which reminded me of other military cemeteries from the west, especially the normandy american cemetery and memorial. but being stupider than i am now, i had never bothered to explore the place then.
however, in january 2008, during a work related outing, i begged a colleague of mine who was driving to pull over and let me have a go at it for a short period of time. in my haste not to bore him and the others (who showed not a slightest bit of interest), i jogged towards the cemetery compound, which is maintained by the commonwealth war graves commission, in awe of the cleanliness and tidiness of the place and managed to capture a few pics that sadly were below average in quality. this was the most presentable of the lot.

a shade from the coconut tree was fully utilised by a lovebird couple in taking refuge from the scorching noon sun while presumably performing the act of courting. the specifics of their ritual were rather vague as i did not bring my superzoom lens on that particular day. october 2007 near pantai irama, bachok, looking northwest.

a casuarina sapling stands alone on the sandy beach of cherating, pahang. the tree and its family, superficially resemble a conifer although they are not, was photographed near the estuary of pak siak river, less than 50m from the terengganu/pahang border. late afternoon in mid april 2011.

i believe my affair with the medieval french village of colmar tropicale themed resort at 790m altitude in bukit tinggi, pahang was a one night standish kind of relationship where once i came inside after inching slowly passed the chastity belt gated tower bridge, i was turned off by the whole shebang and feeling of something’s not right and i limped out weakly in frustration never to set my flesh in again. i reckon the whole fakery concept bothered my libido to the extreme point of never looking back (unless my wife and kids urge or beg me to go with them again).
this pic was taken when i was lustfully and sweatily gliding towards the entrance, mildly spoiled and irritated by the flags on each side (and its inconsistent heights), which in itself was a slight premonition of the looming doom (unheeded by me at the time) that was waiting to swallow me deep inside. noon, august 2007.

migratory little egrets escaped an impending gathering storm during the monsoon season by pulling off a flying v’s while returning to their colony of nests on trees near harvested rice fields in ketereh, kelantan. pic was taken late afternoon in december 2007 while the flock was crossing the airspace above my parents’ house.

lightning and thunder be damned! (actually there were none). a mother’s lifelong passion of playing in the rain was finally rewarded when a heavy torrential downpour came falling down after a hot dry spell. an almost 3 year old naomi anis (left) and her brother, 4½ year old nizwan alif (right) were invited to join in the activity just to show how much fun the adults were having when growing up. taken in the middle of a residence street at segambut under the semi-comfort and safety of an old but trusted umbrella. mid april 2011.

a long exposure of a mini pyrotechnic display during an eid celebration, debatably among several other foreign cultures that have infiltrated the muslim way of life, depending on how and which angle you look at it, which is a good thing, i think. taken in october 2007 at ketereh, kelantan.
