after leaving the rest of our families at tawau international airport, my brother and i went back to tawau town 30 km away to fetch our luggage from the hotel and on our return trip, we stopped at mile 8 along tawau – semporna highway next to a cemetery. the picturesque element was helped considerably by the setting sun behind the protruding tombstones and trees. march 2007.

in may 2007, together with 4 other colleagues, we conquered the infamous quartz hill ridge hill of bukit tabur near taman melawati. however i was scared shitless of the dangerous situation i put myself in performing the death defying stunt in climbing those razor sharp quartz. when we finally climbed down and reached the foot of the hill, i was relieved to come out in one piece and totally forgotten to look back and snapped a photo of the behemoth. 3 months later i found myself driving in the vicinity and stopped to make peace and pay respect. taken on an afternoon in august 2007 facing northeast. previous post on the subject here.

unlike other bananas of the musa genus, this musa ornata tends to be inedible and almost solely planted for decorative purposes especially for the the vivid magenta coloured of the banana heart (inflorescence). pic was taken near my in laws’ abode in muar. april 2007.
