mt. sibayak, at 2,084m is the most easily accessed stratovolcano in indonesia, stands overlooking the town of berastagi and only 5km from where i captured this photo. mt. sinabung is only 15km southwest from this beast. december 2011.

just behind the mesmerising first look at lake toba, i was again highly impressed by sipisopiso waterfall, a 120m plunge waterfall (the highest in indonesia) from the karo plateau that flows to the lake. december 2011.

the first glimpse of the largest volcanic lake in the world, lake toba, as we entered from the northern end near merek, in the karo regency of north sumatra. what’s 180° behind me from this view is another story fit for tomorrow’s post! december 2011.
