a pic a day (day 125)

a latest resident of my parents’ home garden, presumably a descendant of the subject from an earlier post, this large female batik golden orb weaver was hauling her latest highly proteinous prey, an innocent katydid, a long horned grasshopper, although more related to crickets than grasshoppers. upon reaching the centre of the huge fortress of cluster web, her brunch was indubitably secured. perrennially intrigued, i said my prayer and left them in peace. ketereh, mid june 2011.

i am not a fan of food in general, unlike sex, food is only good when you are hungry. however, these tropical fruits, the purple mangosteen do seem to make an exception everytime i came across them. the fruits are excellent for consumption fresh, ripe or even spoil. pic was taken at a fruit stall in kundasang, sabah. july 2008.

a smile gesture by the spectacularly white and absurdly fine sandy beach of mamutik island, the smallest of the 5 islands that form tunku abdul rahman marine park, off the coast near kota kinabalu. pic was taken yesterday afternoon looking southeast during a day trip to mamutik and sapi islands. june 2011.

an excerpt from the words by neil hannon of the divine comedy in sunrise:
from the corner of my eye
a hint of blue in the black sky
a ray of hope, a beam of light
an end to thirty years of night
the church-bells ring, the children sing
what is this strange and beautiful thing
it’s the sunrise
can you see the sunrise?
i can see the sunrise

although the lyrics are contextually about his upbringing in northern ireland, the exhilarating moments of how he and i felt at both times however, were sheer bliss nonetheless. cherating beach, april 2011.

while we are still on a church series, christchurch cathedral, located in the centre of the city in cathedral square, is synonymously known as the city itself. pic was taken on a late afternoon in june 2010, approximately 8 months before the devastating february 2011 6.3 magnitude earthquake that completely destroyed the spire and heavily damaged the structure.

a diagonal view of the christ church of malacca, another fascination of mine, the oldest protestant church in malaysia taken from the ever crowded stadthuys, while overwhelmingly being suffocated by the vinegar like smell of sweat from the large assembly of visitors hunting for overpriced memorabilia and uncomposed snapshots. july 2009.

a refreshing look at pines along the short but just tickling the sweet spot hemmant trail that skirts on the edges of fraser’s hill golf course, famously designed in 1925 by frank hemmant, hence the name of the trail. pic was taken on a cool morning in december 2009.
